Matariki in Te Akomanga Reo Rua

Kei te ako mātou e pā ana o Matariki. Kei te mahitahi mātou, kei te puku mahi mātou.
We made a star chain as a decoration for Matariki

There are a groups of stars which represent our whanau - Tuakana Teina in action

Tipu was learning to cut with sissors

Privilige was proud of his star

Faith was helping Jortana connect the chains together

We worked together and add them together to make a Matariki chain

Jacob made his own chain and connected it to everyone elses chain

  1. Tino Pai Reo Rua... I love Matariki. Matariki is all about celebration, and spending time with family. ... Matariki is also important for agriculture. The coming of Matariki symbolised the harvest festival where the Maori feasted on the crops they had prepared. Matariki is important because it also is the time to restart the Maori calendar. This year Matariki begins on 13th July. How will you celebrate during the school holidays?

  2. Thank you Mrs Collins.
We celebrated by having a Matariki Ball at school and it was so much fun. All of our families came and we danced all night.
Whaea Sangita will share some photos.
